Proposed Amendments to Local Planning Policy 1 – Sea Containers (Closed)


At its meeting held on Wednesday 20th November 2024, Council resolved to initiate the draft amended Local Planning Policy 29 – Sea Containers for advertising to the public.

The changes to the updated LPP 29 are summarised as follows:

  1. New Local Planning Policy (previously 29; now 1)
  2. Updated to be consistent with current legislation and guidelines
  3. Re-formatted for clarity
  4. New provisions introduced for the keeping of sea containers in particular zones (i.e. introducing restrictions for the Residential zone including Wildflower Ridge Estate)
  5. Further guidance on situations where sea containers may be stored on a property without approval
  6. Further guidance on what information needs to be provided with any application for a sea container
  7. Removal of differing requirements and provisions for temporary versus permanent keeping of sea containers and the keeping of different sized sea containers in favour of a more streamlined, consistent approach.
