Community Update - COVID19 Information

Published on Wednesday, 18 March 2020 at 4:26:25 PM

The Shire is aware that many in the community may have concerns about coronavirus and want to know what is fact and what, if anything, they should be doing to protect themselves or prepare for any potential escalation of the situation.

The Shire is monitoring the information as it is provided by the Federal and State Government agencies, and will continue to share information on the Shire’s website and Facebook page.

We are also updating our Business Continuity Plan to ensure that essential services can still be provided to the community in the event that staff availability becomes impacted by COVID-19.

The Shire is also following the WA Department of Health’s social distancing advice to help slow the spread of the virus.  Social distancing includes:

  • staying home if you are unwell
  • avoiding large, non-essential public gatherings
  • keeping a distance of 1.5 metres between yourself and others where possible
  • minimising physical contact.

We also ask that if you are in self-quarantine that you inform Shire officer’s prior to any onsite meetings, and that you not attend the Shire’s office or any public facilities.

Unfortunately, we have had to cancel a number of large public events including Wear Ya Wellies and ANZAC Day services.  Visit our events calendar for cancellation details.

Council meetings will continue with a reduced capacity in the public gallery.  Seating will be adjusted to align with the social distancing advice.

The COVID-19 situation is evolving each day.  We will continue to make adjustments as necessary and as directed by the WA Department of Health.
