MUD, MESS AND MAYHEM IN CHITTERING
The Shire of Chittering brought back #Wellies this month and got messy in the name of fun, freedom, and family!
On Sunday 22 June, over 1200 people joined in the muddy fun in Bindoon as part of the return of the Wear Ya Wellies event. It has been 6 years since the event was last held, with COVID19 restrictions meaning the event was put on hold in 2020.
Shire, staff and volunteers helped to create a range of muddy experiences, including 2 mud pits, a mud obstacle course, and a 25m slide down the hill into a muddy mess! The 60mm of rainfall in the two days before the event meant the mud was extra thick and sticky and help from the local fire brigades ensured nobody was left untouched by mud!
Nature based play activities from Educated by Nature ensured even those who were hesitant about the mud could experience dirt on their hands, and learn some cubby building skills, while they gathered their courage to tackle the messier elements on the day.
There were also snakes, frogs, and insects for kids to hold and admire, face painting, welly tossing, crafts, train rides, markets, and food stalls located on the oval next door. There was something for everyone in the family, with attendees ranging from toddlers to grandparents and all the ages in between.
Light rain showers throughout the day did not dampen spirits. With so much to see and do, people braved the conditions and stayed to enjoy what was on offer. Those who completed the Event Passport went into the draw to win an incredible hamper including products and services from stall vendors, Perth Zoo passes, and vouchers from local businesses. Congratulations to Amanda Smith from Lower Chittering on winning the hamper!
This event would not be possible without our amazing sponsors. Thank you so much to Lotterywest, Road Safety Commission, Rusty’s Electrical, Northern Valley Plumbing, Bendigo Bank, Avon Waste Management, Northern Valley Packers, Bindoon Farmers Market, Northern Valley News, Tronox, WC and SJ Wright Earthmoving, Australian Premium Feeds, and Shane Love MLA.
We would like to especially thank local electrician Anthony Russell from Rusty’s Electrical, who provided more than just electrical services on the day. Where there is mud there is mayhem, and Anthony helped many of our vendors out on the day!
The next Shire of Chittering event will be Taste of Chittering which will signify our launch into spring and the annual Chittering Spring Festival! More information about what is happening in Chittering can be found on our Visit Chittering website – www.chittering.au.
