One Chittering resident will become the newest citizen during a special citizenship ceremony this Australia Day, Thursday 26 January 2023.

The Ceremony is one of the key events in the Shire of Chittering’s Australia Day celebrations and will be held at Muchea Hall, on Noongar Wadjuk Country land.

Acting Shire CEO, Ms Melinda Prinsloo said: “Our newest citizen is from New Zealand and will join thousands of other Australians who are celebrating their citizenship. New citizens contribute their skills and cultural diversity to our local community, and enrich it through their hard work and participation in public life.”

Cr Mary Angus, Deputy Shire President will preside over the ceremony, which will also include a special performance by a local artist - Ezereve .

We encourage everyone to enjoy Australia Day festivities, and also take time to reflect on what it means to be an Australian citizen: our shared values, our national history, our Aboriginal heritage, and our commitment to reconciliation.

Consider how you can become more involved with your local community, to help make it a better place every day.
