A familiar face of the annual ANZAC Day Service held in Bindoon will be missing this year as he ventures across to Canberra as part of the 1 RAR Battalion Group 30th Anniversary events for their service under Operation Solace in 1993.

Mark Kay, a representative of the Bindoon Sub-branch of the RSL and the Master of Ceremony for many years at the Community ANZAC Day Service held in Bindoon, has been invited as a member of 1 RAR Battalion Group who served in Somalia.  He will attend a Reception at Government House hosted by His Excellency General the Honourable David Hurley, Governor General of Australia who was the Commanding Officer of the 1 RAR Battalion Group in Somalia.

The Battalion Group along with supporting and allied contributing organisations, will then lead the morning parade of the 2023 Canberra ANZAC Day Service.

Many of the group have not seen each other for some 30 years, which will make this reunion a significant event not only for the Battalion group but also their families.  The event will be twinged with sadness with many faces missing but we are sure that there will be glasses raised and amusing stories told that will bring these comrades to life for their families attending in their absence.

The role of Master of Ceremony for the 2023 Chittering Community ANZAC Day Service will be undertaken by Corporal Farrah Goodier of the Australian Army, who has strong family ties to the Bindoon Community.

Corporal Goodier, Abbot John Herbert OSB, of the New Norcia Benedictine Community and Shire Councillors invite community members to attend the 11am ANZAC Day Service at the Bindoon War Memorial followed by a community morning tea in the Chinkabee Complex.
