The Shire of Chittering is pleased to announce that the Proposed Utility Scale Battery Energy Storage System, that is to be located at Lot 2364 on Byrne Road in Muchea, has been approved by the Regional JDAP. The proposal essentially consists of large batteries that store surplus electricity from the grid (i.e. electricity from rooftop solar), and releases that electricity during peak times, typically in the evenings.
This investment will facilitate and encourage the growth of renewable energy within the Shire, and is a $135million dollar project.
