Proposed Temporary Yacht Monument for Dementia Awareness; Lot 89 Koomal Street, Bindoon (Closed)


The Shire is in receipt of a planning application for the temporary placement of a yacht monument on the abovementioned property. The applicant’s intent is to create awareness around a general need for aged dementia care in the region and to generate interest in a future aged dementia care village being established in the area.

The proposed monument is a 15.5 metre long, 16.5 metre high sailing yacht (called the ‘Iron Will’) being entrenched into the ground for a temporary period of time (between 6 months to 2 years). The yacht will be protected by a 2m high security fence. The sail of the yacht will be inscribed with the text ‘Iron Will – The Village’ or words with a similar meaning.

Lot 89 Koomal Street, Bindoon is land owned by the Shire of Chittering in freehold however, the applicant is an independent third party, wishing to utilise this portion of Shire land for this project.
