Library To Your Door

What is Library To Your Door?

Library To Your Door is a trial service operated from the Bindoon Library, courtesy of The Shire of Chittering, that aims to provide library books to residents of the Shire who are housebound and cannot make it to the Library.

Who is eligible?

This service is provided for residents of the Shire of Chittering who are genuinely housebound, either temporarily or permanently due to health reasons. Therefore if you are recovering from a surgical procedure, have a broken leg, can’t drive due to a medical condition, or are disabled, you qualify for our service.

If I am temporarily housebound, can I continue the service once I’m better?

Once you are able to get out and about yourself, the service will come to an end. We only have a limited number of spots available and therefore someone else who is in need will take your place.

I don’t have a car, or can’t get to Bindoon to visit the library. Can I utilise this service?

Unfortunately not. Places are limited and are solely for those residents who are unable to attend due to health reasons and meet the criteria. If you are unsure if you qualify, please phone 9576 4600 and speak to Annie.

Do I have to be a member of the Bindoon Library?

Yes you do, however if you are not, signing up is free and easy!

How does the service work?

During the trial, the service will be monthly until we can determine what the needs are within the community. On the first Tuesday of each month (unless advised otherwise), Annie will visit you in the morning and drop off four books and pick up any books you took the month previously. The time cannot be guaranteed as it will depend on who else is having books dropped off but it will be between 9am and 12pm.

Which books will I get?

When you sign up, Annie will discuss with you which genres and types of books you prefer. You can make requests but it will depend on if they are in stock. Currently the Inter Library Loan service is unavailable to Library To Your Door members so the books are limited to what are on the shelves at the Bindoon Library.

You will not just be limited to books though – we also have available audio books, DVDs, board games and jigsaws to borrow as well.

How do I sign up?

Call Annie on 9576 4600 or email her at chatter@chittering.wa.gov.au to see if you are eligible. Spots are limited so it’s first come, first served, but there will be a waiting list you can be added to for if a spot opens up.
