Our library is located at the Shire Administration Centre in Bindoon and is part of the Library and Information Service of Western Australia.

It has a basic stock of approximately 6,500 items that include books, DVDs, audio books, and board games / jigsaws. Monthly exchanges of items mean that approximately 120 new items are received each month.

Opening Hours

  • Monday to Friday from 9.00am – 4.30pm
  • Saturday from 9.00am - 12.00pm (thank you to our Volunteers)

Joining the Library

Membership is FREE.  It is easy to join - if you are over 18 years of age just bring a utility bill or drivers license that has your current residential address. If you are under 18 years of age you will need to attend with your parent or guardian who will need to supply proof of address.

What can you borrow from the Library?

The Bindoon Library has a limit of eight (8) items per card that are allowed to be borrowed at any one time. However, of these only four (4) can be electronic resources (e.g. DVDs or audio books).

The loan period of items is for two (2) weeks, renewals can be done over the telephone on 9576 4610. However, if the item you have borrowed has been reserved by another member, you will be required to return the item and then ask for it to be reserved for you.

We also have a pod coffee machine so you can grab a coffee for only $2! Cadbury fundraising chocolates are also available from only $1, so why not stop in for a cuppa and a snack whilst you browse or utilise Wifi?

Rhyme Time

Kick start your baby’s cognitive development with Rhyme Time! Wednesdays at 10:30am - there will be rhymes, singing, and a story. Suitable for babies, but toddlers are welcome to participate as well. 


There are various apps available to access all the e-resources available via SLWA (State Library of western Australia).


BorrowBox is an award winning Australian App that enables Public Library and State Library members to browse and borrow bestselling eAudiobooks and eBooks on their Apple or Android device for limited periods through digital loans. BorrowBox is a FREE download solution. Once you are signed in you can borrow or reserve up to 4 eAudiobooks and 4 eBooks for a 2 week loan period.

OverDrive is a supplier of digital eBooks and audiobooks. eBooks are purchased for the W.A. Public Libraries Digital Media Collection (WAPLDMC) and made available to public library members.

Kanopy is a video Streaming platform for public libraries delivering one of the largest collections of indie films, classic cinema, festival and educational documentaries, and movies online or through an app. The services enable Public Library and State Library members to browse and view over 30,000 + films and documentaries from top suppliers, including the BBC, Criterion Collection, Ronin Films, Madman Entertainment. Once selected, each film may be viewed, paused, finished and re-watched over a 72 hour period before requesting again. Once you are signed in you view up to 4 films or documentaries within a month loan period. These are updated on the 1st of every month.



The premium digital magazine collection is now available to all library members. This collection of eMagazines includes popular titles such as  Delicious, Donna Hay, Elle, Gardening Australia, The Economist, Vogue and many more. Download the eMagazines to your PC, laptop or mobile device to enjoy at  your leisure.


Go to the RBDigital landing page and select 'create account'. Enter your library card details, and then create a password of your choosing. Download the app from either the App Store of Google Play and then sign in and start browsing!

Requests and Inter-library Loans

If an item in the Shire's collection is on loan then we can reserve it for you. Other items not available from our library can, in certain circumstances, be requested via SLWA and specifically ordered in. The process can take up to four weeks. If you would like to place a request please contact the Shire's Customer Service Officers on 9576 4610.

Lost or Damaged Items

Items that are lost or damaged whilst on loan will be charged at full replacement cost, plus GST. If you do not return a loan you will receive an invoice from the Shire of Chittering.
