Chittering is embracing WA Seniors Week this year with four days of activities for senior residents in the Chittering community.

WA Seniors Week runs from Sunday 10th November to Sunday 17th November and is a special time of celebration for Western Australian seniors.  To show our appreciation for seniors, the Shire of Chittering are running four different events this year which cater for all seniors in our community.

On Monday 11th seniors are invited to jump on the bus and participate in an ink on paper art session at Blackboy Ridge, followed by a day with the year three students from Immaculate Heart College.  The class will be reading the stories they have been writing to the seniors, and then hosting a range of other activities designed to encourage intergenerational fun.

The second of the events is the Active Ageing Bus tour on Tuesday 12th November.  This tour is for those more mobile seniors, and will take them for a trail walk at Blackboy Ridge, a free mini water aerobics session at WaterPonyz Swim School, and a gym session at Gener8 Fitness.

On Wednesday 13th November, things will slow down a little when we join students from Bindoon Primary School at Chinkabee complex for a lawn bowling training session and mini competition, thanks to the Bindoon & Districts Bowling Club.

Lastly, thanks to the Chittering Health Advisory Group (CHAG), local seniors are invited to attend a Seniors Health Expo on Thursday 14th November, where there will be stallholders and presenters from a wide range of service providers, businesses, and community groups.  This expo will have information from around 25 stallholders in the areas of medical care, respite services, government services, aged care, allied & alternative health, and support services.

If you would like to join in on any or all of the activities, contact Alison Reliti on 9576 4602 or cdo2@chittering.wa.gov.au for more information.

These activities would not be possible without the support of the businesses and community groups involved, who are providing the activities for free, as well as CHAG, and funding from Bindoon Bendigo Bank, COTA WA, Lotterywest, and the Department of Communities.
