Firebreak & Bushfire Hazard Reduction Notice

2018/19 Firebreak & Bushfire Hazard Reduction Notice

Pursuant to the powers contained in Section 33 of the Bush Fires Act 1954, to assist in the control of bush fires, reduce the intensity and/or prevent the spread or extension of a bush fire which may occur, all owners and occupiers of land within the Shire of Chittering are required before the 16th day of October each year (or within 14 day of becoming the owner or occupier of land if after that date), to clear firebreaks and/or take measures in accordance with this notice and to maintain those firebreaks and measures in accordance with this notice up to and including the 31st day of May in the following year.

Firebreaks must be cleared by 16 October and remain cleared until 31 May.

Firebreak Variations

Firebreak Variation Application Form

If you consider for any reason that it is impractical to clear firebreaks or other hazards as required by the Firebreak & Bushfire Hazard Reduction Notice, or if natural features render works unnecessary, you may apply in writing to the Shire by the 1 October for a variation listing alternative methods of fire prevention on your land.

A variation belongs to the applicant. If a property is sold or has new occupiers, the current variation becomes void. The new variation is assessed based on the new application received. The Shire may not automatically approve a variation based on a previous application.

Variations may be withdrawn at any time by the Shire's Chief Fire Control Officer.
