The Shire is responsible for the maintenance of a number of parks, public open spaces, ovals, walk trails and conservation reserves.


Facility Review

A Facility Management Review commenced in June 2017 with Council resolving at the July 2019 Ordinary Council Meeting (OCM) to accept the Management of Community Facilities Review Report and Case Studies Report prepared by John Ravlic of Ravim RMC.  A copy of these documents are provided for your reference.

At the July 2019 OCM Council resolved to further workshop the corporate framework and related templates.

Although regular inspections of all parks and facilities are made, the Shire also relies on the public to notify us of any dangerous situations. Please contact Technical Services on (08) 9576 4600 or submit a Works Request Form.

Play Equipment

The Shire is working to meet the needs of children and carers by installing the latest and safest play equipment, and updating older playgrounds to meet current safety standards. Please help to take care of our children, parks and playgrounds by reporting any damaged play equipment to the responsible organisation listed above.

Ground Marking

Clubs are responsible for marking of grounds and providing any other equipment.

  • Permitted: chalk, whiting or ground marking paint
  • Prohibited: lime, creosote, sump oil, herbicide or any other chemical is prohibited for marking grounds

Clubs wishing to ensure that only approved materials are used for line making should contact the Works Supervisor at the Shire of Chittering on (08) 9576 4600.

If inappropriate line marking materials are used then a charge will be incurred to rectify any damage caused.

On Saturday we thank the volunteers that enable the facility to be open from 9am to Midday. Internet access is available for the public in return for a gold coin donation. Bindoon Oval 6180 Great Northern Hwy -31.386951, 116.097580 The Bindoon Oval is located, between the Bindoon Town Hall and the Chinkabee [Sporting] Complex, at 6180 Great Northern Highway, Bindoon. It has a BBQ, picnic tables and public toilets. Camping for caravan clubs can be booked through contacting the Shire on 95764600. Both the Hall and the [Sporting] Complex host many events throughout the year, visit the Shire website (click Discover and Events Calendar) for more details.
Bindoon Townsite Heritage Walk Gray Road -31.38188, 116.09416 The Bindoon Townsite Heritage Walk starts at Clune Park on Gray Road. It is a 1800m "Tale Trail" which shares community stories on bespoke signage. It is an easy stroll along footpaths around the CBD, however care must be taken as there are a couple of road crossings.
Djidi-Djidi Ridge Walk Trail Opposite 3232 Chittering Road -31.48178, 116.11309 Djidi-Djidi Ridge - picnic area with toilets and walk trail.
Distance: 1.5km trail, 3km / 45 minutes return.
Gradient: short, steep hills, some steps.
Quality: formed track, some obstacles, limited signage.
Some bushwalking experience recommended. See the "Grass Tree" sculpture.
Brockman Historical Precinct Cnr Tea Tree Rd and Great Northern Hwy -31.41630, 116.09399 The Brockman Historical Precinct houses Bindoon Arts and Crafts and the Bindoon Museum along with being the site of the Old Roads Board Building. The Precinct is open, through local volunteers, Wednesday from 10am to 3pm and weekends from 10am to 3pm. It has shady picnic tables available at all times. See the "Wheels of Time" which is part of Chittering's Sculpture Trail.
Carty Reserve Walk Great Northern Hwy -31.44107, 116.071056 Carty Reserve - roadside picnic area with walk trail.
Distance: 900m trail with loop, 1.5km / 45 minutes return.
Gradient: mainly flat, slight inclines, no steps.
Quality: formed track, some obstacles, signposted.
No experience recommended. See the "Cockatoo" interpretive sculpture.
Chinkabee Complex Great Northern Hwy -31.38730, 116.09784 The Chinkabee Complex offers bowling greens, tennis, basketball, netball and club facilities. This Shire owned facility is managed by the Bindoon Sport and Recreation Association on behalf of the community.
Chittering Country Club POS Chittering Country Club Estate -31.3979, 116.0654 The Chittering Country Club public open space is a nature reserve with the area reflecting a true nature of the native fauna and flora. There are several walking opportunities within the area.
Chittering Rise POS Maddern Road -31.4823, 116.0566 This public open space is a nature reserve reflecting a true nature of the native fauna and flora of the area.
Chittering Visitor Centre 6180 Great Northern Hwy -31.38562, 116.09669 The Chittering Visitor Centre is run by the Chittering Tourist Association, supported by the Shire of Chittering and volunteers. It is open Monday to Tuesday 10am-1pm and Wednesday- Friday from 9am-4pm and on weekends from 10am-1pm. Hours may vary occasionally due to volunteer availability. The Centre offers visitor’s information about the Shire and surrounding areas, along with stocking locally made products and gifts.
Clune Park Cnr Gray Road and Great Northern Hwy -31.38188, 116.09416 Clune Park is located just north of the Bindoon townsite on Great Northern Highway and only a short distance from the shops. A perfect place to stop for a picnic and to give the children a chance to try out the playground equipment. There is a skate park onsite and a BMX track nearby. Clune Park has well-maintained toilets, BBQ's, a gazebo and shady tables. It is also the Trailhead for the Bindoon Townsite Heritage Walk and connects the Lake Needoonga Walk with the Stonehouse Walk.
John Glenn Park Muchea South Road -31.57868, 115.97411 John Glenn Park is located on Muchea South Road in the Muchea Townsite.
The park has well-maintained toilets, BBQ's, a gazebo and shady tables, other facilities include a playground, skate park and BMX track. In April / May each year John Glenn Park is the venue for the Muchea Youth Festival - visit the Shire website (click Discover and Events Calendar) for more details.
Muchea Oval Archibald Street -31.58191, 115.97089 Muchea is an historic rural village, which has undergone a transition from primary horticultural production to a rural living environment of increasing attraction to those seeking a quiet rural lifestyle. Distance: 620m trail, 1.2km / 30 minutes return.
Gradient: flat, no steps.
Quality: well-formed path, clearly signposted. No experience required.
Robert Hindmarsh Rest Area Bindoon Moora Road -31.16455, 116.05820 The Robert Hindmarsh Rest Area has toilet and camping facilities available, the perfect stopover if you're travelling through Chittering.
Sandown Park Chittering Street -31.57311, 115.97214 Sandown Park is a 13 ha venue used mainly for equestrian purposes, predominantly Polocrosse.
Spoonbill Lake Hart Drive -31.42226, 116.07758 Spoonbill Lake - lakeside walk trail with picnic facilities.
Distance: 800m trail, 1.6km / 40 minutes return.
Gradient: flat, no steps.
Quality: well-formed path, no signage required.
No experience needed, take some time to spot the birdlife at this creek-fed lake, wood and black duck, dabchicks and waders can usually be seen.
Stonehouse Walk Trail Clune Road -31.38241, 116.09233 Stonehouse Walk - lakeside walk trail linking to Needoonga Walk and Clune Park (BBQ, picnic and toilet facilities).
Distance: 1.5km trail, 3km / 60 minutes return.
Gradient: mainly flat, no steps (steep hill if loop return via road).
Quality: well-formed path, no signage required.

Sussex Bend Sussex Bend -31.52924, 116.05717 Sussex Bend public open space is located on Sussex Bend in the Maryville Downs Estate, Lower Chittering. It boasts a BBQ, shady tables and a modern playground area.
The Village Green 23 Chittering Valley Road -31.57051, 116.10239 The Village Green is located at 23 Chittering Valley Road, Lower Chittering. It is a beautiful venue nestled amongst the hills. There are well-maintained toilets, a BBQ, shady table and a playground. The Oval is the home of the local Cricket team.
