  • Are there items I cannot dispose of?

    Tip passes cannot be used for:

    • asbestos
    • large tyres or large volume of tyres (i.e. more than 2)
    • loads greater than 2.3 cubic metres
    • mixed rubbish loads containing recyclable materials
  • Other items accepted

    Various other items can also be disposed at the Muchea Landfill and Recycling Facility. They include:

    • tyres (small quantities)
    • car bodies
    • low level hazardous waste
    • household chemicals - not in commercial quantities
    • asbestos

    Asbestos must be wrapped in heavy duty plastic, sealed with tape and labelled 'asbestos'. It will only be accepted at the Muchea Landfill site between 9.00am and 4.00pm in quantities that can be handled by the carrier. Some asbestos types require a permit from the Department of Environment and Conservation (DEC) prior to disposal. For further enquiries regarding the disposal and handling of asbestos please contact the DEC on (08) 6364 6500.

    Other types of waste may incur Landfill charges, please contact the Shire office on (08) 9576 4600 for further information.

    Please note: special conditions apply to gas bottles and sealed drums, residents must contact the Shire's Technical Services Department prior to delivering these items to landfill.

  • Where can I get tip passes from?

    If you are a home-owner within the Shire of Chittering you will receive tip passes with your annual rates notice. If you are renting you can ask your landlord for his/her tip passes or contact the Department of Housing and Works.

    Tip passes are valid until August each year. Expired tip passes will not be accepted.
