Library
The Shire of Chittering is home to one library, which is located in Bindoon at the Shire’s Administration centre.
It has a basic stock of approximately 5,000 items that include books, videos, DVDs, audio CDs and cassettes, and functions as part of the Library and Information Service of Western Australia.
The Shire of Chittering conducts monthly exchanges of items, receiving approximately 75 new items each month.
Opening hours
Bindoon Library is open:
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday from 8.30am – 4.30pm
Thursday from 9.00am – 4.30pm
Saturday from 9.00am - 12.00pm
Joining the library
Membership of the Bindoon Library is free.
It is easy to join, if you are over 18 years of age you will need to bring in a utility bill or drivers licence that has your current residential address. If you are under 18 years of age you will need to attend with your parent or guardian who will need to supply proof of address.
What can you borrow from the library?
The Bindoon Library has a limit of four (4) items that are allowed to be borrowed at any one time.
The loan period of items is for two (2) weeks, with renewals done over the telephone by contacting the Shire on 9576 4600. However, if the item you have borrowed has been reserved by another member, you will be required to return the item and then ask for it to be reserved for you.

Junior readers
The Bindoon Library has a Storytime session that is conducted on Tuesdays from 10am until 11am. If you are interested in the session please contact the Shire on 9576 4600 and enquire when it is next on.
The Bindoon Library also gives to new junior members a Better Beginnings pack that is full of information about the library, which is designed to encourage the young to enjoy reading.
The Bindoon Library also has a section that contains Junior and Young Adult collections.
Requests and inter library loans
If an item in the Shire's collection is on loan then we can reserve it for you. Other items not available from our library can be requested via LISWA and specifically ordered in. The process can take up to two weeks. If you would like to place a request please contact the Shire's Customer Service Officers on 9576 4600.
Lost or damaged items
Items that are lost or damaged whilst on loan will be charged at depreciated cost, plus GST. If you do not return a loan you will receive an invoice from the Shire of Chittering.
