Welcome to the Shire of Chittering

Chittering can be found nestled in the foothills less than an hours drive north of Perth, Western Australia. We are proud of our diverse Shire with the lovely Chittering Valley and all our other beautiful scenery; our magnificent wildflowers and friendly people.

The Council welcomes all new faces, but warns you "Come for the day and you may want to stay". We were all visitors ourselves once!

Website: http://www.planning.wa.gov.au/Plans+and+policies/Public+comment/2033.aspx

The Muchea employment node is a strategic area located at the intersection of Brand and Great Northern highways that has been identified for a range of service-based industrial and commercial uses, such as transport, livestock, fabrication, warehousing and wholesaling. The structure plan will help identify prospective industries and projects, and will guide development of new land uses such as appropriate industrial lot size, design, additional studies required and development capacities, over the next 20 years. Your comments and ideas can be submitted to: Muchea Employment Node Structure Plan, Western Australian Planning Commission, 469 Wellington Street, PERTH WA 6000. Email:corporate@planning.wa.gov.au. Comment period closes Monday 11 January 2010.

Local Industry

Local Industry in the Shire of Chittering

The Shire is a combination of both rural farming land and small subdivisions. Tourism is becoming a larger industry as the Shire's population grows. Predominant industries situated in the Shire of Chittering are citrus growing, vineyards, metal fabrication, concrete fabrication, mechanical, earthmoving, building related industries, hire companies and transport operators.

The Tiwest Joint Venture mineral sands processing plant at Chandala, Muchea and the Catholic Agricultural College, Bindoon are two of the Shires biggest employers.

Teamwork

Bandstand Pagoda

Council staff are employed to assist residents and ratepayers with their problems and to administer the various Statutes and Regulations, which they are trained and qualified to handle. It is generally accepted that we live in a world in which there is an ever-increasing number of regulations that restrict us for the general welfare of the community. It is obvious then, that particularly the inspectorial members of the staff will, at times, have to find themselves in conflict with the two parts of their occupation, that is the need to enforce regulations will come into conflict with their desire to assist and educate. Understanding of this position by ratepayers and residents will be of general assistance to all.

If you have a particular problem do not hesitate to contact the Council Office stating your name, address and details of the matter concerned. Council staff are committed to providing the best possible customer service.
